With 59 events already confirmed, the schedule of events at the Regional Climate Foundations (RCF) pavilion is set to deliver concrete contributions to COP30’ agenda. It starts on Tuesday, November 11th and ends on Friday, November 21st, with seven events per day from 10 am to 7 pm, local time.
The idea is to complement the official COP30 thematic days by diving into practical topics, featuring proposals from different countries — which include Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Indonesia, China, Belgium, Germany, South Africa, India, Chile and the United States, among others. “The pavilion allows us to elevate regional voices in global climate debates”, says Isabelle de Lovinfosse, director for Regional Diplomacy of Tara Climate Foundation.
The most prominent topics are climate finance — which features over eight events — in addition to decarbonization and energy transition, with five sessions each. The full list of events can be consulted on the RCF official website.
There are sessions highlighting proposals on adaptation from Latin America, for example. In other cases, countries like India and Bangladesh are singled out for their unique approaches to decarbonization. “The pavilion is a space for sharing and learning from one another about the best climate solutions being implemented in different regions”, says the executive director of Iniciativa Climática de México (ICM), Adrián Fernández.
The schedule also includes a debate on a partnership for a future COP held in the Pacific region, demonstrating a collaborative approach to global climate issues.
“It is about being able to offer a dialogue between indigenous or local populations from different regions, discussing how they are playing a role in the climate agenda”, completes Maria Netto, the executive director of the Climate and Society Institute (iCS).
