Mexico’s energy transition requires not only clean generation, but a deeper transformation of the power system as a whole. This panel focuses on the elements that must accompany renewables: grid flexibility, energy storage, the regulatory framework reshaped over the past two years, and the scale of investment the transition demands.
Format: A moderated discussion followed by audience Q&A.
Objective: To frame the role storage and flexibility can play in enabling the transition, and to discuss how the regulatory framework and new investment can accelerate the uptake of these solutions alongside renewable generation.
Relevance: Mexico’s new institutional architecture and expansion plans have set ambitious targets, but how different solutions like storage will be planned, procured, remunerated, and financed remains an open question. The session offers COP31 attendees a grounded overview of what it will take to close that gap.
