Methane from landfilled and openly dumped organic waste is a fast-moving climate problem with immediate health, heat, odour, fire, and livelihood impacts. This interactive Action Lab will connect city officials, community and waste-worker leaders, and climate-finance practitioners across regions.
Three short field stories will be followed by a facilitated systems-mapping exercise covering food-waste prevention, source separation, collection, composting and other locally appropriate treatment, data, finance, and safeguards. The objective is to move from end-of-pipe methane claims to implementable, prevention-led city programmes that cut emissions while improving public health and creating dignified local work. Participants will leave with a 90-day action canvas linking policy, finance, community ownership, and measurable methane outcomes.
