Latin America faces a dual challenge: expanding and modernizing power systems to support electrification, industrial transformation and low-carbon development, while ensuring that new infrastructure is socially and environmentally responsible. The expansion of renewable generation, transmission networks and other enabling infrastructure requires integrated planning that considers grid needs, demand growth, finance, industrial policy, land use, environmental safeguards and meaningful participation.
This one-hour session will combine perspectives from Brazilian organizations working on energy transition, power systems, environmental governance and energy access, followed by a regional dialogue with Latin American experts. The objective is to exchange practical solutions and experiences on how countries can coordinate planning, investment and safeguards to enable reliable, flexible and inclusive electrification, while ensuring that the benefits of the transition contribute to local development and competitive low-carbon economies.
