As COP31 turns attention toward implementation, this session will present key findings from the Climate Transparency (CTI) briefing paper “G20 responses to the energy crisis: the role of electrification in the transition away from fossil fuels”, which compares how a selection of G20 countries have responded to successive energy crises since COVID-19.

Following a short overview of the key findings, panelists will bring national perspectives to the discussion, reflecting on whether these responses have reinforced fossil fuel dependence or contributed to cleaner and more resilient energy systems, and how affordability, equity and just transition considerations have been incorporated.

The session will draw out lessons for implementing NDCs and the energy outcomes of the first Global Stocktake, including the transition away from fossil fuels.
