Achieving a just transition requires governance innovation—Citizen assemblies are a leading example of such innovation. Experiences from across the world show that citizen assemblies and other deliberative and participatory practices can greatly enhance the ambition and delivery of climate policy.
This session takes a cross-regional outlook and brings together diverse perspectives and experiences of climate citizen assemblies, from the Global Citizen Assembly, to a local citizen assembly in Antalya, placing citizens’ voices at the centre of the conversation on water, food, and climate action.
Representatives from international and local organizations will explore how deliberative processes at local, regional and global levels can reinforce one another, ensuring that citizens’ perspectives on climate issues are not only heard but translated into concrete action.
The discussion will also consider how to embed these approaches more systematically into climate governance, from local implementation to multilateral decision-making.
