Based on evidence from Indonesia’s nickel and tin sectors, CORE Indonesia proposes an interactive panel discussion to introduce a Green Industrial Policy framework that puts emphasis on five pillars, which are economic value optimization, labour justice and social protection, governance and institutional frameworks, environmental stewardship, climate mitigation and energy transition.
Both minerals are indispensable to green industrialisation, since tin is hard to substitute in solder for solar panels and electronics while nickel feeds battery cathodes, and Indonesia holds 23% of global tin reserves and 42% of nickel reserves. This session evaluates why global mineral dominance has not translated into local sustainability.
