Around the globe, countries have different national circumstances, institutions, and development priorities that determine their Just Transition pathways, where countries are increasingly incorporating just transition elements such as skills development, social protection, labour and Indigenous peoples’ rights, social dialogue, and green industrial policy into their climate plans.

For designing a global Just Transition Mechanism under the UNFCCC, it is important to look at the experiences and needs on national level because they identify the different functions that a mechanism should perform. In this side event, panel speakers will share their experience with national transition pathways and explore the functions of a global mechanism that will complement and enable national just transition pathways.
