Sustainable Development and Climate Action in Agenda Beyond 2030

The adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement in 2015 marked milestones in multilateral cooperation on sustainable development and climate action.

A decade into implementation, however, progress remains off track. Only 12 per cent of SDG targets are on track or have been met, while full implementation of current climate pledges could still result in warming of 2.3°C–2.5°C by 2100. Inequalities, geopolitical tensions, financing constraints and data gaps have further impeded progress, particularly in developing countries.

As 2030 approaches, the session will reflect on the experience of SDG and climate implementation and consider pathways for a post-2030 framework that promotes greater SDG–climate synergies.

Discussions will cover global frameworks, targets and timelines, means of implementation, multilateral reforms, equity and Global South priorities. The session will comprise expert interventions, a moderated panel discussion and an interactive question-and-answer segment.
