Around the world, community-led energy initiatives are driving renewable energy adoption from the ground up—bringing clean, affordable power to underserved populations. But to meet the urgency of the climate crisis, these efforts must scale and integrate into broader energy transition strategies. This moderated panel, hosted by ReNew2030, explores how community energy projects—especially those using innovative finance and inclusive governance—are accelerating just energy transitions. Drawing on real-world examples from Brazil, China, Mexico, and Nigeria, panellists will highlight tangible outcomes, discuss what makes these models scalable, and examine how lessons can transfer across regions. The session will focus on implementation, cross-regional learning, and strategies.

Guiding questions:

  • How specific community energy initiatives are empowering local actors and delivering benefits to the communities they serve (and which)
  • Which financing tools, ownership structures, or governance models are proving effective—and why
  • How cross-country learning can help adapt and replicate successful approaches across diverse contexts
