The climate crisis has a significant impact on vulnerable communities, affecting various cultural manifestations, from cultural and environmental heritage to the creative economy and associated livelihoods. It’s important to integrate cultural knowledge and resources into climate crisis policies, taking into account local knowledge and practices.
Despite the recognized importance of integrated approaches to strengthening the global response to climate change, the role of culture in driving the systemic transformation needed to address this urgent global challenge remains underexplored. While international forums and agreements are beginning to address the negative impacts of climate change on cultural heritage, rights, and diversity, institutional strategies based on culture for effective climate action are still in their early stages. We also want to inspire the Brazilian government so that we can discuss this agenda and move towards concrete actions to strengthen integrated policies in the connection of culture and climate in our country.
In this context, the proposed panel will present a broad survey of evidence developed from the Global South on the integration of cultural and climate agendas, followed by a debate between 03 panelists from the region and 01 moderator.
