Clean energy transitions present unique opportunities to create broad socio-economic benefits beyond emission reductions. Tracking these benefits can help highlight and communicate the positive socio-economic impacts of clean energy transitions across different population groups and ensure that energy transitions are fair and inclusive with genuine stakeholder engagement.
The IEA’s Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions: Designing for Fairness has developed an Indicators Handbook providing examples and evaluation methodology to track and monitor energy transitions across the globe. A dedicated Southeast Asia Indicators Handbook will also be published after consultations with policy makers, industry, labour, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in the region.
This side event will explore the role of indicators in designing inclusive energy policies and how they can ensure that energy transitions are fair and inclusive with special attention to community engagement and gender equity. Panellists will also outline how stakeholders can use indicators to track and assess energy policies and advocate for change and ensure that stakeholders are more engaged in the policy making process.
Leading experts will be asked to share their experience and perspectives, share lessons learned and outline potential solutions to overcome existing challenges to ensure energy transitions and fair and inclusive for all.
