From G20 to COP 30: Mobilizing Finance for Climate and Nature

November 12, 2024 | Tuesday
16:15 to
17:15 (Baku time)

As the climate crisis and biodiversity loss reach critical thresholds, the urgency of embedding nature into economic strategies has never been greater. Scientific evidence indicates that the Amazon may be nearing a ‘tipping point,’ emphasizing the vital need of mobilizing trillions in investment for emerging economies to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement targets and the Global Biodiversity Framework, and transition away from fossil fuels. Brazil stands at a pivotal moment, uniquely positioned to lead by example in the shift toward a green, developed economy. This momentum, initiated at the Amazon Summit in Belém, is advancing through Brazil’s G20 presidency, and will culminate at COP 30, also in Belém. This event will explore how Brazil and the Global South can join the ranks of the world’s high-income countries while championing global efforts to mobilize finance for climate and nature.

Guiding Questions:

  • How can Brazil catalyze global investments to mobilize finance for climate and nature, promote nature-based solutions, and encourage the growth of the bioeconomy?
  • How can Brazil build on its G20 presidency to establish itself as a leader in the global climate agenda in the lead-up to COP 30?
