The Socio-Environmental Platform is launching the Global South Climate Ambition Observatory: a new platform that analyzes emission profiles, climate risks, and the challenges these countries face, while tracking their commitments on mitigation, adaptation, and just transition. The Observatory begins with nine diverse countries that represent a significant share of the world’s population, with plans to expand.

This panel will mark the launch of the Observatory and feature a roundtable discussion with experts from the Global South, exploring current climate ambition and opportunities for increased action. The panel is aimed at national representatives, researchers, experts and academics, civil society members, and private sector actors. We seek to explore the following guiding questions:

  1. How are countries in the Global South advancing their climate ambition in the context of the Paris Agreement?
  2. What are the main challenges and opportunities these countries face in implementing enhanced NDCs and just transitions?
  3. How can the Global South Climate Ambition Observatory serve as a platform for broad knowledge dissemination, while also supporting transparency and accountability in climate action across the Global South?
